At least 41 individuals, police officers amongst them, were killed after a police bus flew off the road and fell sixty feet into a river bed.
It was carrying 60 officers that patrol the state’s borders. Rescue crews worked to free the rest of those trapped inside. Ten officers have been hospitalized, four are in critical condition.
“This has been the largest loss of life in the history of the force,” a spokesperson of the police said.
It was one of three buses in a police convoy that was traveling on Highway 34 when it crashed at around two o’clock local time near Rosario de la Frontera in the Salta Province.
“These kind of things are always heartbreaking to hear, I wish the best for all those officers and their families,” junior Razmik Degoian said.
